Young Rioja Red

Young Rioja Red Wine at Taperia La Mina — Fresh Tempranillo from Spain’s Most Famous Region

Our Young Rioja Red at Taperia La Mina is a vibrant, unoaked Tempranillo-based wine from Spain’s most celebrated wine region. Served by the glass or by the bottle, this youthful Rioja (also called “Joven”) is the most approachable expression of the region — fresh, fruity, and bursting with youthful energy. At our restaurant in Benidorm, it is the perfect introduction to the world of Rioja wine.

The Rioja Wine Region

Rioja, in north-central Spain, is the country’s most internationally recognized wine region. Divided into three subregions — Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental — it is home to hundreds of wineries producing wines from indigenous grape varieties, chief among them Temprallino. The region’s unique combination of Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Continental influences creates wines of remarkable character and versatility.

What Makes a Young Rioja

A Young Rioja (Joven) is bottled with minimal or no oak aging, preserving the pure fruit character of the Temprallino grape. The result is a wine with bright cherry and red berry aromas, medium body, soft tannins, and a fresh, fruity finish. It is the most accessible style of Rioja — easy to drink, food-friendly, and perfect for guests who prefer lighter red wines without the heavy oak influence of aged Crianzas and Reservas.

Pairing with Food

Young Rioja is wonderfully food-friendly. Its bright fruit and gentle tannins pair beautifully with our toasts, tapas, and grilled meats. Discover Rioja wines at Taperia La Mina.
